Skylah Jai Williams is a seven-year-old second-grader at Icahn Charter School 5 and author of The Girl and the Bookbag. Hailing from South Bronx, NY, Skylah has a deep passion for storytelling, fashion, and gymnastics. As a toddler, Skylah displayed exemplary gifts and talents. She was well spoken, detailed oriented, and imaginative. Skylah often made up stories and confidently expressed to her parents that one day she would write a children’s book. Well, that day has arrived!

Those who know Skylah enjoy her pleasant company and refer to her as quite the social butterfly and fashionista. Although very likeable and friendly, the storyline and inspiration for The Girl and the Bookbag was born out of a personal bullying incident Skylah experienced in school. She faced bullying and chose to use her storytelling talent to write a book to uplift and support those who have encountered the same.
