Dorothy Hughes is a native of Fayetteville, NC; born in 1936 into a poor family of sharecroppers. A wife to Edward Thomas Hughes (now deceased) for more than 43 years, Dorothy raised a family of two, a son and a daughter in Red Bank, New Jersey, and upon retirement, again settled in Fayetteville.

She is a woman of tremendous talent and varied interests including writing, gardening, travel, sewing, crocheting, and church and community service. She writes her story to document a remarkable life filled with struggle and triumph.
